Mavericks: Proving Grounds

Automaton approached us to help promote their latest game, Mavericks: Proving Grounds. The goal? To rally gamers ahead of the next big Battle Royale shooter that would feature a player count of up to 1,000 players per game!

The Brief

UX Web Design and Development

Once the job was in, we met with the Automaton team at their studio in London to discuss the project and rather excitingly, play-test the game. We got to know each other's processes, discussed project goals, finalised the sitemap and left with a much better understanding of Automaton’s aspirations for the site.

The brief was clear; to create a simple user experience that would showcase all the impressive features that Mavericks: Proving Grounds had to offer. The site had to excite potential gamers and encourage them to purchase an early access game pass.

UX Stage

Wireframes & UX

The next step of the process was to create a wireframe structure of the whole site, both desktop and mobile. We wanted to highlight the amazing in-game assets whilst keeping to the best UX practices.

Working Together

Design Collaboration

We worked with the Automaton team, offering art direction that would enhance each and every asset at their disposal. We discussed animations, page transitions and interface features; ready for our development team to experiment with.

The Fun Stuff

Development Experimentation

Automaton wanted to push the boat out with the development stage. In response, we experimented with typographic effects, mouse cursors, button glitches and parallaxing images. We had a lot of fun during this stage and the result; a website that was as dynamic, interactive; and animated as the game itself.

Mini Game

Know Your Environment

One of the key in-game features is that you can track enemy players. We came up with a find and click mini-game that you can play on the site, cleverly showcasing one of the game’s biggest appeals, whilst also acting as a demo for players.

"The team are nothing short of consummate professionals in their work. We brought them into work on the website for our video game, Mavericks: Proving Grounds, and they were fantastic. Working alongside our internal teams, they provided a site that was nothing short of brilliant – exceeding my expectations from a creative standpoint. They are a wonderful team to work with and I will definitely look to them again in the future should the opportunity arise. Thanks Supremo!"
